Personal Statement
From the time I was able to stand on 2 feet, I have loved baseball. I love playing it, watching it, talking about it, and studying it. On the many teams I have played for, I have strived to be the best I could possibly be. My love for the game and my drive to compete and get better is why I want to further my baseball career into college.
The lessons baseball has taught me are used in my everyday life, from the work ethic needed to hit thousands of balls off the tee and block endless balls in the dirt, to the communication skills needed to be an effective leader for my teammates (especially pitchers). I also believe that being a goalie in hockey has made me a better athlete and baseball player. The focus and the attention to detail needed in goaltending are similar to the skills needed as a catcher.
Although high school to college baseball is a big jump, I am used to playing better competition. This includes "playing up" on higher level baseball and hockey teams, or even playing wiffle ball in the backyard against my two older brothers.
My commitment on the baseball field is matched by my commitment in the classroom. With a 3.9 GPA, while taking the hardest, most diverse classes possible, I have proved that my work ethic extends beyond just the baseball field.
I want to attend a college with an outstanding academic program that offers a competitive baseball environment, and that is committed to bettering student-athletes.
