Personal Statement

24.  It is the number of my favorite baseball player, Ken Griffey Jr. It has been the number I have worn since the first day I started playing baseball at age 7; my lucky number throughout the triumphs and challenges I have faced in my life so far and represents so much more than just a number. Every time I put my jersey on, I am reminded how much I truly love the game of baseball. But it didn't start out like that.

I started my sports career playing lacrosse and had no interest in playing baseball.  My parents encouraged me to branch out and try other sports and I eventually played flag football and the following spring I played baseball.  It wasn’t playing in the field or even hitting that did it for me.  The first time I struck out a batter, I knew.  Being on the mound was where I found myself.  From there, my confidence not only grew as a baseball player but in other aspects of my life.  I am a shy person and putting myself out there and building relationships are tough, but baseball and pitching allowed me to build bonds with my teammates and eventually create friendships that I still have today.

When thinking about baseball and how it has impacted my life, I want to continue to play baseball if I can and not only improve for myself but be a mentor to others who also love the game.  My future goals include attending a college or University where I can play competitive baseball and focus on a career where baseball and sports will still be a big part of my life.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
