My name is John-Michael Canto and I am headed into my senior year at Monomoy High School. I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old. When I first started playing baseball there was an instant click and I knew it was for me. My family has influenced who I am as a person and who I am as a baseball player. My parents have taught me that if you aren’t doing everything at 100% then why are you doing it. This includes life even beyond the baseball field. I have learned a lot over the years about myself and one of the biggest lessons is that even failure teaches you things. Life is about learning-you have to always be open to learning because it helps you to improve. I understand that I have to work as hard on my academics as I do on the field. I enjoy math and business and hope that this leads me somewhere. I have been lucky to play on both a high school and travel teams. My coaches for travel have been supportive and understand and pushed me when I struggle. I have always been a great team leader, and am very tough mentally. Baseball has taught me to have confidence in all that I do.
Covid has been difficult but even though I lost my spring season in 2020 I found a way to continue to play ball. I was fortunate that there have been summer leagues here on Cape Cod and that this year (2021), all though abbreviated, there was a baseball season at school. I have continued to train year round at The Lab in Hyannis with coaches Dylan Morris and George Bent as well. They have worked with me for many years and always push me to be my best. I have begun to look at schools and believe that I want to stay in the New England region. I am focused on finding a place to continue to play ball through my college years as well as a school that will offer degrees in my field of interest.
