Personal Statement

My name is Ben Whitman and I will be graduating from Scituate High School with the class of 2022. I am currently a junior and have a 3.4 GPA. I have been playing baseball since I was very young . I strive to be a leader on each and every team I play for and to show how much I care about the game and my coaches and teammates all while still having fun. I am mainly an outfielder however I can pitch as well and have been making great progress on the mound. I’m willing to come in whenever I’m needed to help my team the most. If that means shagging foul balls or being a bullpen catcher so be it. I will do whatever role is asked of me for the better of the team. I’m a highly coachable player and I’m always driving myself to learn and improve. I know I will be a student athlete that you will be proud to say represents your school and your baseball family.

Benjamin Whitman: OF/RHP, (2022) out of Scituate, MA, is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound outfield prospect. In the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 MPH. He showed a quick bat and a flat swing plane during his round. Whitman begins in a narrow stance, with relaxed hands. He uses a longer stride and stays through contact well. In the outfield, he was 79 MPH on his throws. He showed rhythmic footwork, a fluid exchange, and sure hands. He also clocked a 60 time of 7.5. On the mound, Whitman throws from a high ¾ angle, with an up tempo delivery. He remains balanced throughout and creates a consistent line with home plate. His fastball that came in at 75-77 MPH with late running action. He also showed a tight slider (66-70 MPH) and a late fading changeup (68-70 MPH). 2021 Under Armour/Baseball Factory Pre-Season All American Tournament (invite only)

The tournament brings together a selection of the nations top 10th, 11th and 12th grade players from across the country. Every player is handpicked to train and compete against other top talent from across the country. This event will be broadcast in live stream so college coaches across the country will be able to access the event.

5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed pitcher. He cruised through his outing at the event. The fastball sat 79-80 mph with arm side action and he showed the ability to command the ball. The spin pitch was 65-66 mph and big in shape. The changeup is still a developing pitch for him. The delivery is online with the feet and the slot is above 3/4 in height. The lift is solid in tempo and he shows the ability to repeat with athleticism. The arm works long on the backside and quick out front. The release has recoil to it. He turned in a very good performance on this day.

5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. He ran a 7.65 sixty at the event. The approach in the outfield is athletic and online. The feet remain active as he is aggressive getting through the baseball. He threw 79 mph with carry during the outfield defensive portion of the workout. The bat has an exit velocity of 84 mph. The setup is wide in base and he uses a knee to knee approach on the bottom half as the swing is produced. The hands work freely and he took a good round of batting practice. He displayed the ability to spread the field and stay in his legs during his swings.
