Personal Statement

I’m going into my sixth year of catching for the only AAU travel ball team I have played on (Batter’s Box Renegades in Westfield, MA.).  My coaches have allowed me to call my own games since my 10-u season that has given me the opportunity to recognize the importance of the pitcher/ catcher relationship.  My in-game knowledge continues to grow, which also allows me to help the younger catchers behind me working with this same organization.  I also enjoy helping younger catchers and players who, like me, want to gain as much knowledge and skill as those before me. As a student-athlete, I believe that keeping a balance in the classroom, on the field, and in my personal life is most important. Baseball has been a great teacher as it has taught me many life skills such as the ability to lead individually and in both small and larger groups.  With respect to time management, I have been able to keep a balance a 20-hour workweek, on top of a rigorous training schedule, which includes team practices, private catching and hitting instruction, and a weight training regimen all while maintaining a 3.76 GPA.

The leadership skills that I have learned from baseball, I would argue, are the most important both on and off the field. As a catcher you are rightfully expected to be the leader of the team, I have fully embraced this role. From a young age, I have been running portions of practices myself, keeping my teammates on point and locked in with what our coach expects, and keeping morale and focus up during practices and games.

Training

  • Hitting Lesson
  • 8 years
  • Over the past 8 years, I have done this weekly for 1/2 hour with Coach Tim Kelleher of the Batter's Box located in Westfield Ma.
  • Catching Lesson
  • 7 years
  • Over the past 7 years, I have done these weekly for 1/2 hour with Coach Adam Zebian of the Batter's Box located in Westfield Ma.
  • Daily Workouts
  • 2 years
  • Over the last two years, I have been on a schedule that has me working out every day except Sunday for around 45 minutes to an hour and a half. My primary focus of this is to build practical strength that will benefit me on the field. I have really kicked these into high gear this offseason going from a mere 128lbs in September, to pushing 160lbs currently. These are now considered part o my daily routine and I look to continue them for as long as I possibly can.
  • Hitting/Catching Practice
  • 5 years
  • Over the past 5 years, I have incorporated my own hitting/catching practice into my weekly routine. For between 1 hour and an hour and a half, I will work on my skillset at the local training facility The Batter's Box. Whether it is my dad or my teammates I go in with somebody 3-4 times a week over the past 5 years. I equate most of my success to this since I am constantly perfecting my craft.
  • Seasonal Clinics
  • 7 years
  • I have participated and volunteered at these seasonal clinics since the age of 11. They are located at The Batter's Box in Westfield Ma. Usually taking place during breaks in school (Summer break, February break, Winter break, etc.). I have everything from fundamentals, to advanced training at these camps, and I continue to learn as I volunteer at these Clinics.
  • Weekly Travel Team Practices
  • 6 years
  • For the last six years that I have played for the Batter's Box Renegades we have practiced two to three times a week over the offseason, then down to one time a week during the season.
