Personal Statement
My name is Devin Monroe and I am 16 years old. My greatest passion in life is baseball. I have been playing ball since I was 5 years old in t-ball. I have always loved being on the field. I learned that I have a relative Tom Henke that played major league ball as a pitcher and have looked up to him, though I have only met him once when I was a small child I feel that his accomplishments inspired me to work hard and be confident in my ability to play ball. I have learned that ability and talent are good but to be my best, hard work and attitude are equally important. My academic goals are to improve my GPA and go to a good secondary school that has a baseball program so I can continue to play the sport I love and get a good education. I would like to get into the field of sports management.
I have had to work hard to prove myself to my coach and fight for my position on 3rd base. That was when I learned that my attitude and my effort was the characteristic that made me stand out and eventually helped me get the spot on the team as the starting 3rd basemen. I also battled with a bad arm slot as a pitcher. I had to work very hard to get my arm in the correct position through physical therapy and training. I can now throw consistently about 87 mph for around 100 pitches with no pain. I can remain calm in almost every situation that I have experienced. I can effectively play well on 3rd base, 1st base, left field, catcher and pitcher. I love the hot corner and pitching the most because those are the positions on the field that I have the most experience in and I feel the most at home.
