Personal Statement
The definition of an underdog is a competitor thought to have a little chance of winning a fight or contest. It seems that I have been an underdog all my life as I was born prematurely at 30 weeks. You can see that the odds were stacked against me, as I spent the first two months of my life in a hospital. It took me a lot of healing and hard work so that I could be sent home. It seems like a theme in my life where I make sure I work harder than everyone else so that I can achieve my goals.
I have been interested in sports since an early age. As a multi-sport athlete, I play baseball, basketball, and soccer. The endless hours on the playing field has helped my high school sports teams become successful in my years as a high school student. As I play sports year round, I have learned many traits about myself that translate into everyday life. Being a leader on the athletic fields has given me the courage to join multiple student-led groups in school including Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Ambassadors, and also becoming the Vice President of my class. I am a stem believer that hard work is contagious, and that leading by example without a doubt is a must. I believe that I have not only the skill set to compete at the college level, but the determination, perseverance, and my attitude will propel me to become an excellent college student athlete.
