My name is Lukas Torres and I am a student at Barnegat High School in New Jersey. I am a very hard working student athlete, always trying to improve myself both on and off the field. If I were to describe myself briefly I would say my strongest characteristics are determination and the ability to absorb what others are trying to teach. This season I am looking forward to making the varsity team, starting in the outfield and pitching when necessary. As a team player, I'm very versatile and willing to play in any position the coach needs in order to help the team succeed. During the past 2 seasons with my travel team, the Diamond Wizards out of Jackson, New Jersey. I batted over .400 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, and 1 home run and for pitching had 2 no hitters, 6 wins, 0 losses, 30 strike outs, 12 walks given up, 2 runs given up in 36 innings, helping the team win multiple championships in the spring of 2016 and also earning 2016 Blue crab week long Ripken Tournament Most Valuable Player. I pride myself on being up at the plate with the game on the line; that's why I spend my time in the cages wisely to improve my hitting to prepare for that moment. Also during this past fall I was on the Junior varsity cross country team in preparation for the upcoming baseball season. I wrapped up my fall season of baseball with batting average .556, OB% .578, 25 hits, 5 doubles, 10 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and for pitching 3 wins, 2 losses, 22 strike outs, 7 walks given up, 2 runs given up in 25 innings pitching. I volunteer and mentor through the Barnegat Little League Challenge League for special needs children. I very much enjoy coaching younger athletes in baseball and am happy to spend my free time teaching others the sport I love. I find academics to be just as important as sports, which is why I stay on top of all my school work. My goal is to play baseball in college and I would be extraordinarily grateful to play for any university for my college career. While in college, I plan on studying to become a teacher in order to give back to my community and afford others the same opportunities with which I have been afforded. I come from a military and baseball family with a much disciplined lifestyle. From a young age my parents taught my siblings and I that nothing is given to you and to always work hard to achieve your goals. I apply the lessons learned from my parents to all aspects of my life and I strive to lead by example and will always be there for my teammates. Thank you for your consideration.
