Personal Statement

My name is Lukas Torres and I am a student at Barnegat High School in New Jersey. I am a very hard working student athlete, always trying to improve myself both on and off the field. If I were to describe myself briefly I would say my strongest characteristics are determination and the ability to absorb what others are trying to teach. This season I am looking forward to making the varsity team, starting in the outfield and pitching when necessary. As a team player, I'm very versatile and willing to play in any position the coach needs in order to help the team succeed. During the past 2 seasons with my travel team, the Diamond Wizards out of Jackson, New Jersey. I batted over .400 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, and 1 home run and for pitching had 2 no hitters, 6 wins, 0 losses, 30 strike outs, 12 walks given up, 2 runs given up in 36 innings, helping the team win multiple championships in the spring of 2016 and also earning 2016 Blue crab week long Ripken Tournament Most Valuable Player. I pride myself on being up at the plate with the game on the line; that's why I spend my time in the cages wisely to improve my hitting to prepare for that moment. Also during this past fall I was on the Junior varsity cross country team in preparation for the upcoming baseball season. I wrapped up my fall season of baseball with batting average .556, OB% .578, 25 hits, 5 doubles, 10 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and for pitching 3 wins, 2 losses, 22 strike outs, 7 walks given up, 2 runs given up in 25 innings pitching. I volunteer and mentor through the Barnegat Little League Challenge League for special needs children. I very much enjoy coaching younger athletes in baseball and am happy to spend my free time teaching others the sport I love. I find academics to be just as important as sports, which is why I stay on top of all my school work. My goal is to play baseball in college and I would be extraordinarily grateful to play for any university for my college career. While in college, I plan on studying to become a teacher in order to give back to my community and afford others the same opportunities with which I have been afforded. I come from a military and baseball family with a much disciplined lifestyle. From a young age my parents taught my siblings and I that nothing is given to you and to always work hard to achieve your goals. I apply the lessons learned from my parents to all aspects of my life and I strive to lead by example and will always be there for my teammates. Thank you for your consideration.

  • Joe Todaro, Manager/Owner, Jersey Shore Rampage Athletic ability: 10/10 Leadership: 10/10 Team player: 10/10 Easy to work with: 10/10 Ability: 10/10 " My name is Joe Todaro and I am the Manager and Owner of the Jersey Shore Rampage Baseball Team in Barnegat, New Jersey. It was while fulfilling my duties at the Jersey Shore I had the great pleasure of coaching Lukas Torres for the years he played for us. This letter is to serve as a recommendation on his behalf. Many times in this business we are asked to give our opinion of players or write recommendations. Every once in a while there comes a time when giving such an opinion or writing a recommendation is something that we truly enjoy because of the impact and impression that a particular player has made on us. For me this is one of those times. Lukas Torres was one of the most "coach-able" kids I have ever had the pleasure of working with. When I coached him I made him understand his role of leading the outfielders defensively during each play. He became one of our leaders of the team and maybe the best leadoff hitter I ever had. When he pitched we recommended to change his motion and taught him to use his legs to gain more speed on his fastball. Rather than be resistant, Lukas bought in to what I was telling him and had a lot of success the years he played with us. Through his own hard work and dedication he got better and better each appearance he made. His hard work not only is evident on the mound but at the plate and in the field as well. Lukas was always one of the first to show up and last to leave, always wanting to work extra on anything that might help make him a better ball player. Offensively, he has a good idea and approach at the plate. His very good hand eye coordination makes him a dangerous hitter that will not strike out very much. Lukas understands that one of his biggest weaknesses was his lack of power at the time and I have watched him work diligently to improve this weakness in his overall game. While Lukas is blessed with a 6.6 sixty time, he is an athletic kid whose defensive abilities are equally as impressive as all the other things he does on a baseball field. Time and time again Lukas amazed me with plays he was able to make in centerfield. Of all the things I have told you about Lukas probably the most impressive attributes he displays are the intangibles that he has. In a day and age where many players have lost the love and passion for the game of Baseball Lukas is a breath of fresh air. Lukas truly has a heart for baseball which explains his hard working nature and mentality. But most of all he is passionate about this game and plays the game without an ounce of fear. If I could field a team full of kids just like Lukas I would have the makings of something special. In closing, should any of you that read this letter like to talk with me further about Lukas Torres as a player or as a person I invite you to call (917) 257-2500 or email me [email protected] at any time. I will look forward to hearing from you. Regards Joe Todaro" Personality: "See above"
