Hello! My name is Marcus Colombo. I am from East Orange, New Jersey, I am a rising Junior and I play Varsity Baseball at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey. I’ve played baseball for 10+ years of my life, baseball is a huge part of my life. I’ve been an infielder mostly middle infielder for all of my playing career. I’ve been told by, if not all a majority of my coaches that I’m a very flexible player that can incorporate things into their game on the fly easily.
As a player I am a very passionate player, and I play with everything I have. The first thing you notice in my game is my hustle on both ends, if there is a will or a way for me to have a impact on a play I will do my best to do just that. Whether that is laying it all out on a dive, going to into a gate, fence, or running any length on a popout to get it myself or to backup a teammate I will do just that. The same on offense if it extending a single or not slowing down on a grounder hoping the defense makes a mistake I am gonna try too. I think I’m most valued for my fielding and my ability too get on base.
I’ve work on my game at countless clinics, camps, and spring, summer, fall leagues. It’s hard to do summer and fall leagues now because I go to a school that I attend for around 10 in a half to 11 months out of the year and also being a year round multi-sport athlete. I’ve played club baseball for Union, Millburn, and Orange teams.
Attending St. Benedict’s Prep has better me in other ways, with it being a highly notarized Catholic preparatory school being on 60 minutes and many other different shows or sport documentaries. There are a extreme amount of things going on at my school at all times whether its students from Holland, Israel, a school in the states, another film crew filming something. You have to get comfortable with being constantly busy or being able to focus with many things going on balancing schoolwork, going to practice, going home, and maintaining a social life.
The school has also extremely helped me grow as a person. At the school we are a brotherhood we have deep ties with our past, you’ll see countless alumnus show up all the time being from the class of 2013, 1982, or 1959 checking in on the community. We have many school mottos or sayings like “Whatever hurts my brother hurts me” or “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Regardless this community has helped me matured leaps and bounds, and I know that balancing college schoolwork and baseball is possible for me. You probably hate me after reading this long statement but I would love to continue playing on the next level.
Thank you for your consideration!
