2023 HighlightsComing out of my sophomore year of high school at age fifteen, I started varsity as the varsity catcher, and finished the year with a batting average of .292, and was able to be the runner up in runs batted in. With one of the least amounts of strikeouts, I was able focus on making the other team make the play. As the only sophomore on varsity, I wasn't sure what to expect when the season began; but I knew that I had to hold my own. Starting the year I batted seventh, slowly working my way up to the fifth spot. I worked hard to prove that I belonged in that spot in the lineup. Throughout the season, as the catcher I let almost no passed balls by and had multiple putouts on the base path.
I love the game of baseball. I dream to play in college and then to someday accomplish the ultimate goal of making it to the professional level. Baseball is a difficult game and the results can bring a player's attitude down. I strive to be a leader on my team, picking up my teammates. "It is how we react to failing more than the actual act of failing." This is where the growth happens - we need to come back stronger than before. Nobody is going to remember one mistake for longer than a couple days, but the consistent commitment and the drive to do better will stay in someone's mind for a long time. I try to mentally and physically help my team to stay in the game and stay involved. While no one likes to be on the losing end of an at bat or a pitching battle, as a competitive athlete these are the opportunities that I try to grow from by making adjustments and putting the work in. I try to always give one hundred percent. I have learned not to be selfish but to understand that sometimes being the player the team needs is not always being the player that you want to be, and that's okay. There's a time for thinking about ME and a time for thinking about WE.
On the academic side, I am a straight A student starting my junior year of high school. I am a straight A student and my academics are very important to me. For me, the word "student" will always come first in the phrase "student athlete". Whether it is on the field or off of it, I try to exhibit the same important skills of hard work, dedication, teamwork and leadership. These are important skills in baseball but also in life. I believe in this area, I can be an asset and a leader on any team. WIth my academics and athleticism, I hope you will consider what I can bring to your program.
