High School and American Legion Head Coach Letters of Recommendation
Travis LaFerriere, Schalick High School Head Coach
My name is Travis LaFerriere, and it is my privilege to write this recommendation for Dante Camilli. I have been fortunate to coach Dante on the Schalick High School baseball team for the past three years. I have been able to watch Dante mature as an athlete as well as a person. In all of my dealings with Dante he has shown to be a young man of character, intelligence, and talent. He is now a Senior at Schalick and is displaying the leadership and work ethic that every coach hopes for from his top player. Dante is a 6’4, 200 lb. athlete with all five baseball tools.
Following the 2015 season, Dante won a number of awards. Dante earned First Team All - Tri County Conference First Baseman honors. The Tri - County Conference is a 21 school conference in Southern New Jersey. Dante also earned First Team All - Area / Southern New Jersey honors as a pitcher and was awarded the Schalick High School Team MVP. Dante won the Southern New Jersey Batting Title with a batting average of .483 and he pitched our team to it's first playoff win in 19 years. Dante was selected by the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau and the South Jersey Coaches Association to participate in the MLB Scouting Bureau Invitational Combine to identify players for the 2016 MLB Draft.
Dante excels in school. He takes demanding Honors and Advance Placement courses at Schalick High School and he has a 4.64 GPA (weighted) on a 4.0 scale. His SAT scores are 1820 (Math, Reading and Writing), and 1220 (Math, 610 and Reading, 610) respectively.
Coaching at a small Group 1 school has its pros and cons. I like being able to see student athletes succeed and grow as players, but I am also very limited in the depth of players I get. Getting a player like Dante to come through my program is a treat and he will be missed when he moves on to college baseball. Dante displays a great attitude on and off the field. His baseball IQ is extremely high and he is one of the most coachable kids I have ever worked with. The same work ethic that has made him such a good baseball player has also made him a strong student. Dante is a polite young man, and his humility keeps him motivated to improve.
As a player, Dante is a starting pitcher and versatile infielder capable of playing all four infield positions. He has a good solid frame and he still has some time to grow. Dante has tremendous arm strength and good arm action. His fastball velocity is consistently around 85 mph, touching 88 mph. Dante works down and away effectively to both sides of the plate. His four seam and two seam fastball have late movement, he has a 12-6 curve ball that batters have difficulty hitting, and he is developing an effective change up. Dante is also an exceptional offensive player. This season he batted .483 with a very high slugging and on base percentage.Last season, as a Sophomore, he hit .395 and led our team in most offensive, defensive and pitching categories. He is patient at the plate and hits the ball the opposite way better than a lot of high school players I have seen.
Having played at the collegiate level myself, I am confident that Dante is going to have a very successful baseball career beyond high school. I strongly believe that Dante will be an asset to any college baseball program. He is a very projectable player who has the intangibles that any coach would die to have. No one will outwork him. I encourage you to give Dante strong consideration for your baseball program. If you have any questions about Dante please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Travis La Ferriere

Gary McDowell, American Legion Head Coach
My name is Gary McDowell and I am the Head Coach for the Williamstown, NJ American Legion and South Jersey Braves Baseball Travel teams. This letter is to serve as a recommendation for Dante Camilli. I have coached Dante for two years.Over the course of many years of coaching I have been asked by college coaches and professional scouts to give my opinion of players. Dante is one of the most talented and coachable players I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Dante came into our program from another school district and immediately fit in with the players and coaches and impacted our program.
Dante is a skilled position player. Offensively, he is our three hole hitter. Dante hits to all fields for a high average with power, he has an excellent understanding of the strike zone and he has a high on base percentage. Dante is a reliable bunter and an instinctive base stealer and base runner with very good speed. Defensively,Dante was our starting shortstop or first baseman when not pitching. He has solid fielding fundamentals, quick hands and good footwork and consistently makes plays at shortstop and first base. Dante hustles on and off the field, runs out every ground ball hard, doesn’t take a play off and is a leader on and off the field.
Dante has great size, quickness and arm strength. The long toss routine that he is on has helped him to develop incredible arm strength. He long tosses well over 300 feet. Even though he plays infield for our team, his strong arm and athleticism would enable him to be a corner outfielder.
As a pitcher, Dante's fastball velocity was consistently in the 85 to 86 mph range in the fall of 2014 and reached 88 mph in the summer of 2015. Dante has very good control and command of his four seam fastball, change up and his curve ball . He throws a an 11 to 5 slider/ curve and a change up with sinking movement. Dante has great make up and competes on the mound. In our last wood bat tournament of the fall of 2014, Dante was scheduled to pitch the championship game. However, with our team down 4-0 in a semi final game against a very talented team, Dante came in from shortstop to pitch in relief. He went four innings, struck out eight batters, five consecutively, and did not allow a run. Dante is a team player that has the ability and potential to be a dominant power pitcher in college.
Dante is a very good student and multiple sport athlete at Schalick High School. Dante has been a starting Varsity baseball player since his Freshman year. He plays Varsity basketball, Freshman year to present ( Tri County Conference Champions, 2013,and 2014) , and Varsity football ( quarterback in 2012 and 2013). Dante is also a member of the National Honor Society and he is active in community service activities.
It is with the highest regard that I recommend Dante Camilli as a future college baseball player and student. Without question, he will be a successful student-athlete at the college level. If you should have questions regarding Dante, please contact me at (856) 371-5305.
Sincerely,
Gary McDowell
