Dear Coach:
I have an interest in playing baseball for your team. I am in my Junior year at Suffern High School, which is located about 30 miles outside New York City.
For years, I have been a top player on my team and in my age group. In May, I pitched three scoreless, no-hit innings in the semi finals of our school league playoffs. I also had the winning or tying hit for three consecutive games throughout our playoff run, resulting in a Rockland County Championship. As a result of my play (as well as my teammates) I was brought up to the Varsity team for the Sectional play-offs. My teammates and coaches voted me Most Valuable Player of my team.
Because of my athletic abilities, I was the starting first baseman and started on the mound every third or fourth game. My coach also used me as a closer for many of the important games against the better competition in our league.
I love baseball and ever since I picked up one of those nerf bats when I was two years old, I knew that baseball would be an important part of my life. I have always wanted to compete at a high level and have always played "up." I condition myself the year round and have started a winter workout program which involves a trainer and take pitching and hitting lessons from top coaches. Competing at the championship level is something I strive for year after year.
This summer on my travel team, at age 15, I played first base and outfield, in addition to pitching against players 18 and 19 years old. Always looking to improve, I learned how to pitch at a higher level, as I was the youngest player on the field. I played with teammates whose number one goal was to work together to win. Egos were left at the door; no screaming little league parents and as the young lefty, I took in and appreciated the advice of other players and coaches. As a result we were very successful team.
Right now, I am taking my game to a new level as I train with better athletes from all around the tri-state area. I am looking for a winning college baseball program where I can use my skills. My grades have improved each year as I understand the need to have top grades. What was once a "C" average has turned to "A's and B's."
I would bring to your program, strong abilities as a pitcher and position player, a high quality work ethic and the willingness to spend the time to improve.
I look foreword to talking with you.
Sincerely,
Jake Traub
