My love for the game of baseball has led me to Florida, where I play for FIBA International, where we train daily and year around. I left the comfort of home and my life-long friends in Ohio to dedicate myself to an intense, year-round program. I am a 16 year old on an 18u team made up of international players from 21 different countries. All of my teammates are dedicated athletes as well who have left the comfort of their homes to pursue their baseball dreams. I experience a daily culture of dedication and shared sacrifice among my teammates. We work to make each other better through sharing and competition.
I am 6’4” and 200 pounds (these are true measurements) in my Junior year of high school with a current semester GPA of 4.0 which has raised my cumulative GPA above 3.0. I have found my academic stride and expect my grades to continue to be at or near the 4.0 level. My primary position is first base and I am enthusiastically cross-training as a pitcher at the request of my coaches to take advantage of my natural, physical traits.
Even though I am only 16 years old, I find myself in the role of a leader on the team and I embrace the responsibility. I understand many of my teammates look to me for help in acclimating to our culture in addition to baseball leadership. This has given me insight into other cultures and conditions.
My baseball program practices daily with frequent tournaments. We work indoors and in the field in order to drill, refine techniques, and gain detailed understanding of all aspects of the game. I am fortunate to learn from former professional baseball players who have dedicated their lives to coaching. We practice and play tournaments with wooden bats as well as metal/composite. This has given me an understanding of the difference between swinging an aluminum bat and a wooden one.
I also work out with a personal trainer to improve my fitness and strength and I care about my nutrition.
