Benjamen Bartholomew '18 Recruiting Profile

Throughout my sporting career, I have learned many things that have helped me better myself not only as an athlete but also as a person. Things like leadership and perseverance. Being a leader on the diamond and in the arena can be shown in many ways. My style is a leader by example, demonstrating the right way so that the rest of the team can follow. For example, when I am hitting, I always know the situation and try to do what’s best for the team. If the situation calls for a ground ball to advance the runner, I’m not worried about my stats, I’m trying to hit that ground ball to help the team.  

I learned a lesson in perseverance when I was 11, playing for my Little League team trying to qualify for the Little League World Series. I was one of the youngest players on the team and had a poor start to the season, losing confidence and struggling on the field. But I stuck with it, worked hard and became a leader. As an underdog, our team managed to place 3^rd in the Province of Ontario, the best showing by our Little League in 50 years. I was the starting pitcher in the final game of that tournament and batted cleanup. We didn’t win the tournament, but I am proud of what our team managed to accomplish.

Academically, I have shown that I am capable of excelling in school, achieving honor roll status in grades 9, 10 and 11, while balancing that against the demands of a busy sports schedule. On top of my baseball and hockey club participation, I have also participated in high-school volleyball, cross-country running, hockey, and of course baseball.

Since starting high school, my goal has always been to be a student athlete at the college level. I want to get my degree, play my sport, and see where that experience takes me in life.
