Sean Matson '21 Recruiting Profile

It has been a dream of mine to play college baseball and attend a school that values both academics and athletics. Both of my parents played Division 1 sports in college and my sister currently plays field hockey at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and for the USA Women's National Team. I have witnessed first hand the hard work and dedication it takes to play at a high level and I have also been fortunate to visit many different college campuses and watch a lot of live college games over the past 10 years. Now I would like the chance to experience competing at the next level myself.

I have been working very hard towards this dream both on and off the field with constant support from my family. I take pride in my fastball command, confidence in throwing my off-speed for strikes even behind in the count, my glove work, and switch-hitting ability. I continue to work on my speed, but my footwork and baseball IQ keep me as a lead defender. I have been raised to understand that coachability is an important tool. I started switch hitting when I was 4 years old and never looked back. I work on hitting, infield drills and/or pitching and arm care daily.  When I am not practicing my baseball skills, I am working on improving my strength, speed and agility. I am focused in the classroom, have a positive reputation, demonstrate strong values and character and am known to be a good leader, teammate and friend.
