I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself. My name is Jay Joseph and I am currently a Junior at Bishop Canevin High School in Pittsburgh, PA. Recently I have spent time doing research on which colleges would be a good match for me both academically and athletically. I am very interested in playing baseball at the next level and would appreciate receiving information about your school, as well as about the baseball program.
Academically, I have participated in a college preparatory program here at Bishop Canevin High School maintaining a 3.3 grade point average and ranking 66 in a graduation class of 102 students. I am scheduled to take the ACT and SAT in May. I plan to major in business finance, and have been an active participant in the Future Business Leaders of America program. I also participate in Student Council here at Bishop Canevin.
During my high school career I have seen playing time as an infielder, outfielder, and pitcher. As a junior varsity player I have accumulated .333 (20/60) batting average with a total of 20 runs batted in, and 13 runs scored, 15 walks, 10 stolen bases over two seasons. I have made the varsity team as a junior, and currently I am a relief pitcher and reserve player. I have scored 2 runs, and have 2 stolen bases to this point of the season. As the season moves on I hope to continue to grow as a player, and contribute to our teams' success.
In adddition to playing baseball at Bishop Canevin, we also complete a number of service projects as a team. We have received both national and local awards for our charitable works. I have also seen varsity time on our high school's varsity golf team. As a golf team we earned the WPIAL Championship in my freshman year (2009). These experiences have shown me the importance of working with others to make a difference in the world around us.
Over the course of the last six summers I have played travel AAU baseball and have been on 2 recreational teams each year. We have won various tournaments, and my 2011 city baseball team went undefeated.
My most recent achievement was winning the Mayor's City league championship in 2012. I played at PNC Park in Pittsburgh with my supercolt team, and was recognized on the field.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Jay Joseph
