Hi! My name is Nathan Owens. I am a 5`10”, 185lbs catcher currently attending The Woodlands High School (TX), and will graduate in 2022. I played on JV as a freshman at a very competitive school, and on varsity in my shortened sophomore season. During my sophomore year, I was coachable and learned a great deal about the game of baseball from my head coach, Ron Eastman. My goals are to graduate with a 4.0 GPA (unweighted), and to bring a state title back to The Woodlands.
In the classroom, I am a well-rounded student with excellent study skills. I have been on the A-honor roll since freshman year. I maintain a 4.55 weighted GPA, and a 4.0 unweighted GPA, while challenging myself with honors and AP/Dual Credit classes. I finished in the 96 percentile on the PSAT without prep. I have also made a 30 on a proctored mock ACT. With prep, my goal is to raise my ACT score to a 32-33.
Outside of the classroom, I take part in a volunteer service called Challenger League. This league lets baseball players run a controlled game for children with disabilities. It always brings a smile to my face when I see how much fun the kids are having. I also volunteer at a non-profit called SpringSpirit, which brings baseball to underprivileged youth. Finally, I participate in a regular bible study with my family.
My work ethic, grit, and coachable qualities make me a great fit for a college team. I take pride in my work as a catcher, and enjoy creating relationships with my pitching staff and the umpires. I work hard to be a leader on the field, and believe that a catcher must be in control of the game. When I’m not catching, I am either playing third base or outfield. I will not take an opportunity to play at the next level for granted.
