As long as I can remember I have had a ball in my hand. When I was four years old my mom took me to a baseball game and from the crack of the bat to the noise of the crowd, I knew I was a baseball player. I have played with many teams including the Canes, Braves, Rage, Warriors, and throughout little league and middle/high school. One thing has remained constant, the friendships I have build and the love of the game.
My name is Matthew Blalock and I am a catcher. I have played many other positions, but my home is behind the plate. I also play football, basketball and am an avid outdoorsman. I volunteer with the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited and work with the youth at conservation events and with my youth group at church. I attend Fredericksburg Christian where I am scheduled to do a mission trip to Guatemala in the Fall of 2023, my sophomore year. My favorite subject in school is science but I excel in hands on activities. My day begins at 4 am, where I go to school to work out at the gym till school starts. After school I am either on a field, in a cage, working out in the gym or completing studies. When asked what I would like to do after high school graduation, I am still exploring my options. I am interested in business but at the moment I am still undecided.
I am a young man with a burning desire and determination to play baseball. I have a strong work ethic on and off the field and my teamwork skills have been developed with problem solving an decision making. I know that I can contribute to any ball club and show my dedication, determination and intensity. I have been awarded as starting freshman for my high school with the intensity award and the spiritual award. I appreciate the team aspect of baseball and believe that by giving everything that I have not only am I developing as a player and young man but I am giving my teammates the best on and off the field.
I am the youngest of 4 children. My mother is my biggest fan and my role model. She taught me to hunt from a young age an also has worked long days and hours to provide me the opportunities to follow my dreams. She has told me since I was little "she would give me as much as she could, but those opportunities are ultimately up to me and how I shape them". She has gone back to college and is pursing her doctorate, all while allowing me to go to private school, and provide me with resources many don't have. But most importantly her sacrifice has shown me that we must work hard for our dreams and nothing is easy. Through hard work, determination and love she has instilled in me that anything is possible. Win or loose, there is never failure, just room to grow and learn from every life lesson we are given.
I appreciate your time and your consideration as you look at my profile and possibly consider me for your college.
