The first time I hit a baseball over the fence at age 10, the feeling I felt made me realize I was doing something special. I wasn’t sure how I’d top that feeling. But then, at age 12, I hit a walk-off grand slam while playing in Cooperstown! That feeling was back only it was bigger and better! My teammates, coaches and family cheering me on as I ran the bases was the best! And when I turned 13, that feeling returned again with my first home run on the big field. At each milestone, I’ve learned that baseball gives me purpose. It makes me want to be better at my sport and better in life. Excelling in baseball makes me feel better about myself and increases my confidence.
An extreme introvert, I sometimes struggle in social settings. But when I’m on the field and I’m part of a team, I’m not Spencer the shy kid, I’m me. Spencer the baseball player is who I am. I hope to continue to make myself stronger and better on the field and excel in the classroom so that I can find a college/university, coach and team who will except me for who I am and help me continue to make myself better at my sport and in life.
