Personal Statement
I am the quiet leader that you are looking for. I thrive on learning more about strategies and techniques as I am a catcher and a quarterback. Listening carefully is important for me to learn quickly from my coaches. People have said that I am calm, cool and collected even under high pressure situations.
At the age of 2, I would exhaust my two older sisters and parents tossing the whiffle ball and taking batting practice and then I taught myself to toss it up and hit it myself. That is when I learned to bat left and throw right.
Growing up I have enjoyed playing baseball, soccer, football, and basketball. This year I plan to focus on playing baseball and football. I have been weightlifting and consuming protein shakes trying to gain weight but it has been challenging since I am still growing, right now I am 6’4”.
I have worked hard in school by taking AP classes and challenging upper-level classes. My current GPA is 3.55. My future career when I’m completely done exhausting my sports career will be working as an engineer at Boeing. Last year I had the opportunity to take a special fieldtrip to Boeing and learn more about the opportunities they have and I walked away completely enthralled with the idea of working there someday.
Something that is motivating me is when a coach gave up on me when I was 13 and 14 years old. I decided to try a different select team and in doing so sat in the dugout more than I ever have. This truly was a personal battle for me in not having confidence and when I did get an at bat there was so much pressure to get a hit that I would be playing mind games within myself. This struggle has lit a fire within me because since then I have been one of the top hitters on my teams and I quietly want to prove to him that I am an athlete that can play high level baseball.
