Personal Statement
I think there are many experiences that have impacted my life and taken me to a path of wanting to do really well academically and play baseball beyond high school. I have always been around sports but I chose baseball as my sport in 8th grade. Through baseball I have determined how to chart my own course, stand up for my future and still be a person with character and values impacted by my family, teachers and friends.
One of the largest lessons I have learned is that it takes practice and focus to attain goals I set for myself. When I first started to pitch, I was brought in as a closer – we’d be behind, and I could come in shut it down and get us into Sunday. With consistent practicing, I now pitch more than just as a closer getting my team ahead. Learning and focusing on my eating also got me to be more athletic. I know I have a lot to offer on the field at first base, pitching and hitting. I want the opportunity to go up and get that batter out or make that play at first with an inch further stretch/jump or running to the fence for that fly ball catch. I know I can lay down a bunt if asked but also hit it up the line to move the runners around allowing me to get on base where I steal aggressively. On a personal level, we moved in my grandmother in my high school years, who has dementia and my family makes every game. I have learned through them taking care of each other and items I do on the field apply to my personal life and things I do in my personal life apply to my playing.
I will continue to mature and grow as I surround myself with good people and I want a college and team that allows me to do that. I would like to find a team that is competitive where I can continue to contribute to the success of that team. It’s important to find a college that will be a good fit also for academics because I have worked hard excelling in high school with AP and college courses. I know I am ready for the next step in my life of competing and leading at a collegiate level.
