Personal Statement

I am a 10th grader at Franklin High School and am excited to learn about and plan for college opportunities. I enjoy math and science, but also the field of law enforcement. I plan to learn more about careers where I can apply these interests.

I have played many other sports in the past, but now I have decided to focus on baseball. I have been playing club baseball since I was in the 4th grade. I am currently playing for Louisville Slugger Hitters Baseball Academy in Wisconsin and have had the opportunity to attend and compete at various showcases and events.

As a catcher, my focus is on being a vocal leader with my teammates, on pitching strategies and defensive readiness. I hustle in every at bat, in every inning behind the plate, and in all practices and training sessions.

My goal is to play college baseball, not only for my abilities on the field, but also the opportunity to further my education.

Michigan State - Spartan Fall Prospect Camp

Our prospect camp is designed to allow each prospect the opportunity to showcase their entire skill set while being evaluated by the entire Michigan State coaching staff in every aspect. We will split the camp into two sessions, a morning and an afternoon. The morning session will serve as a pro style workout, where prospects will be evaluated in running the 60 yard dash, as well as fielding, throwing, and hitting. We will also have position play where you will receive individual instructions by all the coaches and current players. We will then break for lunch. After lunch the second session will be dedicated to playing games, hitting, and an introduction to our strength and conditioning program. Advantages of coming to our camp include: gaining exposure in the recruiting process, acquiring valuable skills & techniques to become a better player, meeting & interacting with our current players. Along with our entire coaching staff, there will be several other college coaches in attendance evaluating you as well (DII, DIII, NAIA, JUCO).

2017 14U National Showcase Aug 05, 2017 PG Grade: 8 Joey Turco is a 2021 C/RHP/3B with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Franklin, WI who attends Martin Luther HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned well throughout frame with additional room to fill. Ran a 7.51 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate and comes out of the crouch well while staying low throughout, receives the ball out front and transfers into a short arm action with a tight release, throws show carry with accuracy down to second base, repeats well and projects with additional lower half. Also pitched, works with an on line delivery, short arm stroke through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Hip turn at top of delivery with a short stride down mound, fastball topped out at 76 mph and showed sink when down in the zone. Feel for curveball and showed confidence in the 11-5 shaped pitch while creating deception on straight changeup at 66 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Lower effort swing and incorporates present physical strength while projecting for more pop at maturation. Easy and simple swing with loose hands and generates bat speed through the zone. Ball jumps off the barrel when on time and squared, upper body dominant swing and can unlock additional strength presently with lower half incorporated into swing. Good student.

3/15/16 - 5-foot-7, 145-pound right-handed hitting C/RHP with a strong frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a slight arm bar load. Short stride with good balance. Fluid rhythm with a short swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.10. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Athletic actions with soft hands. Popped 2.43-2.55 and threw 67 mph from the crouch. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with good balance throughout. Athletic finish with regular effort. Fastball sat 70-72 mph. Maintained arm speed on changeup at 60-62 mph. Cutter was a decent offering with slider action at 65-69 mph.
