I have been performing in cheer and dance competitions since I was 6 years old and was the first in my class to learn a back handspring. When I was 7, I became a flier and learned it was my favorite thing about cheer. At the age of 8 I learned Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Hip-Hop from my cheer coach. All those types of dances were so much fun. Jazz and Hip-hop taught me more and were more exciting. Jazz gave me the chance to perform in a Disneyland parade, which I enjoyed very much.
While learning dance, I still did youth cheer and continued till my 8th grade year where I decided not to go on to my youth senior year of cheer. Instead I chose to do Diversity Elite's U18 team Thunder. It seemed like a better fit for me at the time because I wanted to be more challenged. During that time I learned a lot about being a better flier. I really understood the things I needed to fix and learned what things I was really good at. We did many competitions with JAMZ, USA, and a few others. I enjoyed it very much. It was worth not doing that year of cheer for the all star team.
Next I went on to high school cheer as a freshman. It was a new thing for me but I really enjoyed it and got to learn some new stunts. As a sophomore I was chosen to be cheer captain that taught me about leadership. This year I am on the varsity squad and one of the top fliers on my team. I really enjoy what cheer is all about and I want to continue this path to college and try to get a degree in communications and see what’s next to come.
