UCA Camp SkillsMy name is Aria Welsh, and I am a senior at Fort Campbell High School.
I’ve been a cheerleader at FCHS for four years and would love to continue cheering at the collegiate level. I started on the JV team as a freshman and moved up to varsity midway through the football season. Since then, I’ve been on varsity and have served as captain for three and a half years.I am also a 2x UCA All-American cheerleader! I have won awards such as perfect attendance, MVP, most school spirit, best teammate, and Kentucky High School Athletic Association Academic All-State (x3). Our team began as a sideline squad, but with the addition of new coaches, we have formed a competition team.
I am primarily a flyer, but I have had the opportunity to base on several occasions. I think it can be valuable for a flyer to also be a base because it can help you understand how a stunt works from a different perspective, making it easier to correct mistakes. The skills I have mastered are toe touch baskets, j-up libs (prep level), half ups (prep level), ruby slipper full ups (prep level)(side base and flyer), toss up (prep level), braced extension lib (side base) show and go's, shoulder sits, walk in to prep, prone dismount, j-downs, and pop downs. Some skills I am still working on include ground-up inversions, extension libs (flyer), full ups, full downs, and windmill teddies.
In tumbling, I recently learned how to do a back handspring on the tumble track. While this skill doesn’t yet meet the requirements for most schools, I am determined and hardworking, and I plan to master my back handspring on a dead mat and progress to a tuck. I began tumbling just a year ago and have already started working on tuck drills to help me reach my tumbling goals.
I have also been involved in Track, Wrestling, Archery, Student Trainer, Student Council (Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Class Secretary), National Honor Society, Mu Aloha Theta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kids Empowering Kids, and Student 2 Student throughout high school. Finally, I have volunteered for various things ranging from parades to school events and sports fundraisers!
