Hello, my name is Miranda. I have been cheering since 2nd grade with my town's recreation program. I have always loved the sport and have always looked forward to the fall season each year. In my freshman year, my mom suggested I join the competition cheer team my high school offered. I hesitantly agreed, not knowing where it would take me. I tried out and made Gameday. Joining the competitive program was one of the best choices I have ever made in my life. My sophomore year changed the way I viewed cheer though. I made both Traditional and Gameday and had the best time with it. My team competes at the UCA Nationals held in Orlando, FL and we were the 2024 NJCDCA State Champs. I can say nothing beats the feeling of performing on that mat. I can remember exactly how I felt to this day. Looking at the lights, the crowd, and waiting for the music to turn on. It is something I never want to give up. Performing both routines at nationals made me so happy and it was a very big moment for me.
Coming into junior year and thinking about colleges, I instantly knew I wanted to continue to compete at the collegiate level, continuing to advance my skillset and knowledge of cheer. I plan on trying my hardest and hopefully winning nationals at some point in my life. It is a big goal of mine and I want it to make it happen. I want to work hard and be the best I can for myself and my team. I can tell you all that I will work my hardest and will never give up. Cheer means a lot to me even just being on the sideline means a lot. Without it, I wouldn't be the confident, cheery person I am today.
Being apart of my cheer team has shown me the leadership skills needed to have a great team. It is not only about the skills, but it is also about the attitude, motivation, and about working together as a team. As a current junior, I am very excited to be a senior and on track to be a Captian. I have always wanted to lead my team and work hard in order to not only win but make great memories. My cheer team has also taught me how to teach and work with each other. Advice and encourgment can go a long way to make a team and yourself better.
In my free time, I teach third and fourth graders cheers and create routines for them. I have been a 'Cheer Angel' since my freshman year. It was just me, two other coaches, and 24 girls. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty hard. But I am so glad I did it because it makes an imapct in the girls life and knowing some of them may look up to me means a lot. I remember my cheer angels from all the years I cheered when I was younger. Choerographing and working with the coaches to help the girls perform their rountine at the boys football games and for my high school's home Winter competition, Rumble in the Jungle. On top of teaching them, I hold great grades with getting honor roll or high honor roll each marking period. As cheer goes from around June to Febuary, In the spring I play softball for my high school. I like to keep busy year round always working hard and gaining more experience. Even more, I have a job. So with my sports, school, my job, and what we call 'littles practice' during the fall, it can be a lot. But it has shown me my limits and given me motivation not to give up. Knowing that I am preparing and making myself better for the future inspires me to do more. I am looking forward to and thankful for any opprotunities I may get along the rest of my journey throughout cheer and high school.
