My name is Dylan Rietti and I have only been playing field hockey since my Freshman year in high school. My path to field hockey started with competitive soccer. I played competitive travel soccer my whole life and after an ECRL season with five different coaching changes and some extreme frustration, my friend suggested field hockey. This suggestion changed everything. The skills, positioning and vision of the field that I learned from soccer, immediately translated to field hockey and I fell in love with the game.
During my freshman year, I played forward for my JV field hockey team. I led my team in goals as well as assists and was named “Rookie of the Year.” The support of the team and coaches provided me with an even deeper love for the game. In an effort to improve my field hockey, I wanted to continue getting faster. I was able to make the varsity track team and ran both the 800 and mile races with my fastest mile time at 5:48. This freshman year and my love for field hockey as well as my speed improvements were the catalyst for me to focus on field hockey and stop pursuing soccer. I joined the Rush competitive field hockey team and have solely focused on field hockey which has become my true passion.
I am now a sophomore, and am a starting midfielder for my varsity team. I maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking three honors and one AP class. As a student athlete, I have developed a strong work ethic, and I constantly work as hard as possible to push myself to reach the next level in sports and academics. I work to lead my teammates with constant encouragement and motivation. I play midfield for my high school as well as my travel/club team, but I can help my teammates and see the field in any position.
Some other things I enjoy are doing volunteer work, and hanging out with my friends and family. I love anything active and have had the privilege of traveling to many amazing places. I am scuba certified and had the opportunity to hang glide and repel in some beautiful destinations.
I wake up thinking about field hockey and I am determined to play in college. I am constantly watching my film as well as college game film to improve my game. I want to become a leader and make an impact to any team I am on, and look forward to reaching new goals and pursuing my passion in a sport I love.
