Personal Statement
I have a passion for field hockey and have played it as my main sport since I was 12, travelling across the country for matches, training and camps. I have been playing for my county since I was 13 and I am currently in the Essex County U18s squad, captaining them on numerous occasions. I also play for my club team, Chelmsford Hockey Club, where I play for the Ladies 2nd XI which plays in the East of England Premier League. My predominant position is in attack, however, I am a versatile player and can play in any position on the pitch. My biggest ambition is to be able to study and gain a scholarship in the USA as an undergraduate starting in August 2021.
I am an enthusiastic and friendly individual who strives to complete every task to the best of my ability. I am adaptable, resilient and determined to do well in all situations. I have good people skills, organizational skills and am highly practical. I would be a good candidate for your team as I am motivated to maintain my peak physical fitness, which will benefit the team and other players around me. I also have a great deal of experience captaining my teams (including for my county) this has developed my perspective of the game not only as a member of the team but from a leadership position. This experience has made me aware of the roles each individual must play to form a cohesive team
I believe that having an overseas sporting experience is extremely beneficial as it gives you a broader view of the different viewpoints of hockey. It also allows you to meet all kinds of unique individuals who share the same passions as you. I would be proud to represent your university and would be a positive and supportive player for the team if given the chance to succeed both academically and athletically. After university, my goal is to make a career out of elite coaching and I believe that this opportunity would improve my prospects. I hope to travel the world playing hockey and encouraging the involvement of other youths in hockey.
School-Throughout my school career, I have always been diligent and striving to be my very best. I believe this is necessary for my future sporting career as it is a highly competitive industry that requires physical and mental strength.
For year 7-11, I studied at Chelmsford County High School for Girls, Essex where I obtained 11 high-level GCSEs including, a 7 in Mathematics. At school, I received numerous school awards including the Academic Excellence Award, Contributions to Sports Award, Leadership Award and the Pursuit of Excellence Award. I am currently studying at the Boswells Sixth Form, Essex where I take A-level Sport, Dance and BTEC Performing Arts.
Sports Qualifications- I have developed a wide variety of skills throughout my many years of playing sports, many of which are transferable to different skills and activities. My dedication to improving and learning skills in sports has been commended many times. Below are just a few of the awards and qualifications that I have received in the past two years alone:
Coaching Support Worker – I have recently attended a training day where I developed my understanding in assisting coaching cricket and develop what I learnt in AllStars Cricket.
ECB ACO club scorer – I have achieved the club scorer certificate where I reinforced my knowledge of officiating cricket by completing an e-learning course.
Level 1 Umpiring – After attending a training day, I achieved my Level 1 Umpiring in Hockey and continued to work on my skills by umpiring at the London Youth Games of Hockey.
OSCA Award - I recently was awarded a Young Volunteers Award for cricket and attended the national finals for Outstanding Contribution to Cricket at Lord’s Cricket Ground
