Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Lainey Bayer, and I am a part of the class of 2024 at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Kentucky. I’ve been playing field hockey ever since I was 6 years old, and it’s always been a dream of mine to play field hockey at the next level in college. Academics have always been a priority for me as well, and I would be honored to attend a school that would push me to be the best I can be, both in the classroom and on the field.

I take pride in being a leader on the field, in the classroom, and in my other activities. I have always been on the national teams for my club, Stealth Field Hockey, and have been chosen as a team captain at NITs, Showcases, and RCC tournaments. Freshman year, I started every game on the SHA JV field hockey team and was selected to the All-Tournament-Team. As a sophomore, I am proud to say I made the Varsity team at SHA. My team and I finished with a record of 24-3, only losing to teams at out-of-state tournaments. To end the season, we WON STATE 1-0 on October 25, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far we came and to be a part of the Sacred Heart field hockey program. This year, as a junior, I am starting at midfield for Sacred Heart and am looking forward to being a major contributor to my team throughout the rest of the season.

My academics have always been a priority for me as well. I am taking the most advanced classes offered to me at SHA (AP, IB, and Honors), and made Principal’s List both freshman and sophomore year with a 4.0 GPA. I am a part of student council where I was elected to be on the executive board as the Public Relations Director, and I am a part of the Ambassadors program where I was elected to be on the executive board as Open House Chair. Also, I have gone above and beyond the service requirement and have submitted 200+ hours in my first two years at Sacred Heart. I am also a part of the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute where I learn leadership skills, and complete an internship and a job shadow as a Frazier Fellow. In the JFLI, I also was selected as a peer mentor to lead mental health workshops for grade school students, as well as a Navigation mentor where I help incoming freshman find their place at Sacred Heart. This past winter, I worked in a student leadership campaign where I raised $130,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma research and treatment. I am staying involved with the organization by being the Chair for next year's campaign, and I am a part of the student leadership team at an organization called Gilda's Club to support families affected by cancer. I work two jobs, one at Cyclebar and one as a summer lifeguard at Audubon Country Club, along with babysitting.

Along with field hockey being my main sport, I am a part of the varsity lacrosse team where we finished 2nd in the state tournament, and I do conditioning at Norton Sports Performance 3 days a week in my offseason. Along with that, I make it a priority to condition and practice everyday outside of all of my other activities. Everytime I step on the field, I remind myself of my goals, and tell myself that I will give 110% effort and get a little better each day. I love playing field hockey because it has taught me many more things than I ever could have imagined - from being a good teammate, developing listening and leadership skills, and that I have to work hard for what I want. I’ve been told by all of my coaches that I am hardworking, have a positive attitude, am coachable, and am always smiling, even while we run sprints! I hope that all of these qualities will help me continue to get better and better and be able to accomplish my dream of playing field hockey in college. I hope to speak with you soon!!
