Personal Statement
My name is Lainey Bayer, and I am a part of the class of 2024 at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, KY. I’ve been playing field hockey since I was 6 years old, and it’s always been my dream to play in college. Academics are just as big of a priority for me, and I would be honored to attend a school that would push me to be the best I can be, both in the classroom and on the field.
I’ve been told by my coaches that I am hardworking, have a positive attitude, am coachable, and am always smiling, even while we run sprints! I am a team player and was awarded the Bunny Daugherty Unsung Hero Award by the SHA Athletic Department last year. At the National Player Combine, coaches said I finish well, force to the side well, have creative skills in attack, look to shoot, am a calm organizer in defense, and I lead well.
I take pride in being a leader on the field, in the classroom, and in my other activities. I have always been on the national teams for my club, Stealth Field Hockey, and have been chosen by my coaches as a team captain at NITs, Showcases, and RCC tournaments. Freshman year, I started every game on the SHA JV field hockey team and was selected to the All-Tournament-Team. In 2021, I was one of four sophomores on the Varsity team. We finished with a record of 24-3, only losing to teams at out-of-state tournaments. To finish out the season, we WON STATE 1-0, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far we came and to be a part of the Sacred Heart field hockey program. This year, as a junior, I started every varsity game at midfield or back, and am part of the 7v7 squad when we are in OT situations. I was named to the First Team All Region, the State All Tournament Team, and the Second Team All State at the end of the season And was also selected to play in the All Star Game.
I am taking the most advanced classes offered to me at SHA (AP, IB, and Honors), and made Principal’s List both freshman and sophomore year with a 4.0 GPA. I was elected to the executive board of student council and the Ambassadors program. I am also a member of the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute where I learn leadership skills, and will complete an internship and a job shadow as a Frazier Fellow. In the JFLI, I also was selected as a peer mentor to lead mental health workshops for grade school students, as well as a Navigation mentor where I help incoming freshman find their place at Sacred Heart.
I have gone above and beyond the service requirement and have submitted 200+ hours in my first two years at Sacred Heart. In 2022, I worked in a student leadership campaign where I raised $130,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma research and treatment. I am staying involved with the organization as a Chair for next year's campaign, and I am a part of the student leadership team at an organization called Gilda's Club to support families affected by cancer. I work two jobs, one at Cyclebar and one as a summer nanny.
Field hockey is my main sport, but I am also on the varsity lacrosse team where we finished STATE CHAMPS this past season. I do conditioning at Norton Sports Performance during the week in my offseason, and I make it a priority to condition and practice everyday outside of all my other activities.
Everytime I step on the field, I remind myself of my goals, and tell myself that I will give 110% effort and get a little better each day. I love playing field hockey because it has taught me many more things than I ever could have imagined - from being a good teammate, developing listening and leadership skills, and that I have to work hard for what I want.
As you can see, I push myself in everything I do. I hope that all of these qualities will help me continue to get better and accomplish my dream of playing field hockey in college. I hope to speak with you soon!!
