I started playing field hockey my sophomore year and from the moment I stepped on the field, I was hooked. I played on JV my first year and by the time my junior year (second season) came around I was starting every game on varsity playing against the top teams and players in the state. Now it is my senior year and I am a captain and the lone senior in my high school program. If I had to describe myself on the field I would use these three words: competitive, positive and driven. In the classroom I am a mostly A student but I do struggle in math. In school I am a member of executive board in student government, volunteer board and I am the communications chair on the executive board of my schools National Honors Society chapter. I am a tri-sport athlete; besides field hockey I play varsity softball and play travel ice hockey. Outside of my sports and school I have a passion for volunteering and giving back to my community. I am part of three nonprofits and have started my own. I have been a part of toys for tots for my entire life and have been helping bring Christmas to children across West Michigan for as long as I can remember. I serve as a coach and official for the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation that allows kids to play hockey for free. The third nonprofit I am part of is Billy Bear Hug (The Billy Wondergem Foundation) which brings the cure of comfort to children fighting life-threatening illnesses and their families. I serve as Co-Vice President of Billy Bear Hugs Youth Advisory Board. This summer one of my friends and I decided to start our own nonprofit: The Balm Buddies to help provide pediatric anesthesia departments with lip balm to put on the masks of children undergoing operations to make the operations less scary.
