My name is Jenna Smolinski. I am a junior at East Aurora High School in Western New York. I have been playing field hockey for five years and have been a goaltender for three of those five years. I have so much passion for this sport and my position as goalie.
Despite my later start at goalie, I found it to be such a great fit for me on the field. I had to work really hard to meet the expectations and skill level of the other goalies in my league. To do this I joined my club team, Buffalo Field Hockey Club, and started working year round, tightening my skills. As I improved, I felt more and more gratitude and passion for being a keeper and became varsity goaltender my sophomore year. This 2024 year we had our first winning season as a combined team (East Aurora and Holland Schools combine for certain sports), and as the starter this school year, I faced 111 shots with 89 saves. I had 22 goals against, making my save percentage around 80% with 912 minutes in goal. Due to my performance this fall season, I received an ECIC honorable mention for section 6 sports.
After this winter club season, I have realized that I’d love the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love in college. I am a hard working student on and off the field. I take AP courses in school and I’m involved in school clubs and activities. This summer I have the amazing opportunity to travel to the capital cities of Scandinavia with some of my classmates on an educational tour. I am a dedicated student and love to learn. I know that I have a lot to offer as a student athlete.
