I have had my heart set on playing field hockey at the collegiate level for years, and as I continue to develop my skills, I am reminded of the aspirations I have, and the determination I have to achieve my goals. I began playing field hockey in eighth grade, and quickly progressed. I earned a starting position on my high school varsity team as a sophomore, scoring 6 goals all season as a right midfielder. When our center midfielder and leading scorer graduated that spring, I stepped into her role my junior season.
I became more of a ball distributor than a scoreboard leader as a center midfielder, and had consistent appearances in defensive corners as the fly due to my speed and body control. I worked hard on improving my transition work in order to allow for clean offensive movement to occur, and being creative with how I would take the ball into the circle on a 25 yard penalty. Not only do I work hard on the field, but also in the classroom as my academic performance is just as important to me as my athletic performance. While playing three varsity sports and working a part time job, I maintain a 4.0 gpa and strong presence in International Baccalaureate (IB) and Honors classes.
On the field and in the classroom, I am a leader and encourage my teammates and classmates equally. Compliments and constructive criticism is a part of how I play field hockey, and this trait is also seen by my teachers. Taking my skills and knowledge of the game, I am able to teach, correct, encourage, and give advice to my teammates, allowing myself to be seen as an approachable leader, and an equal in position and situation. I hope that my character, skills and field presence, as well as my academic performance allows me to stand out among the rest, and that college coaches give me the opportunity to bring everything I have to their team.
