On September 8th 2014 I committed to the University of Pennsylvania. I would like to thank my wonderful parents and sister Mia for all the support and time they dedicated to helping me and motivating me on and off the field. I also want to thank all of my coaches: Michelle Finegan, Richard & Jun Kentwell, and Sue Persichetti, with special thanks to my GK coaches: Kelly Driscoll, Rennie Milne, Phil Edwards, and Claudia Fernandez, who have shaped me into the player I am today. In addition, I am grateful for my friends and teammates who have continually cheered me on and pushed me to be better. Finally, I would like to give a huge thank you to Penn Head Coach Colleen Fink and her coaching staff for giving me this fabulous opportunity.
Ever since I was little, I loved watching my older sister, Mia, play field hockey. Going to her games was my favorite part of the week, especially getting the chance to play around with her teammates. I wanted to be exactly like my sister. As I got older, I developed my own personality, but my love for field hockey remained.
I have been blessed with supportive parents, teachers, and coaches for whom I am very thankful. I, myself, have not experienced any true adversities; however, from the age of 6 to 14, I watched both of my parents be diagnosed and treated for cancer. This was a scary situation to be in, but I am better for it now. Both of my surviving parents have taught me so much about life that I would have never understood without this experience. Also, during this time, my elderly grandparents lived very close to me and I would see them regularly. Dealing with the health issues of my parents and growing up with my grandparents caused me to mature earlier in life.
My academic goals for high school include keeping my grades at a high standard in order to receive the highest class GPA in the spring. I also want to maintain the strong connections I have formed with my friends. In college, I intend to earn a degree in my chosen field that will enable me to continue my educational development in graduate school. Academically, I gravitate towards subjects dealing with mathematics and science, but am open to any possibilities in my future career.
Besides the expected qualities of dedication, discipline, and perseverance, the experience of being the starting varsity goalie as a freshman has helped me to realize that I have an ability to handle pressure and stay calm during stressful situations. Most compliments I receive are about my quickness, although I am most proud of my ability to anticipate the play, which I attribute to the mathematical approach I take to this position.
I look forward to my parents and my sister cheering for me in my college games as they do now.
