Hi, I am Olivia Nogami. I started playing field hockey in 4th grade. As I was growing up I played many sports but field hockey was the one I loved the most. I originally started playing field hockey because I wanted to do a summer camp with my best friend, and one day my mom got an email from the Souderton Area Field Hockey and Lacrosse Organization.
I grew up in a very small town in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, it’s one of those places where everyone knows everyone. This is significant to me because I’m consistently in a tight-knit community that has always supported me. Also, my family members are all very close and involved in each other’s lives. Going into college I am looking for a family-like community.
What I learned from field hockey is how to communicate with others, time management, and self-discipline. I also learned how social dynamics work, and how to compromise. By playing field hockey I learned about myself that I like collaborating with others and problem-solving. On and off the field I am dedicated and persistent. I love to be creative and think outside of the box. I also strive to exceed all my expectations and I never want to let anyone down.
When I was younger I had an IEP. I received support in reading and speech. I overcame these obstacles; I am now in the GIEP program at my school, and I am an honor roll student. My future goals for high school are to continue taking challenging classes and to build solid study habits.
