Sabrina Balent '25 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Sabrina Balent and I am a 2025 Field Hockey Goalkeeper with a 4.3 GPA with High Honors. I’ve been playing Field Hockey since I was 7 years old. My parents took me to a K-5 clinic when I was in the 2nd grade and I had a blast. That summer, I attended the Gateway field hockey clinic hosted by some European coaches and, after hounding them relentlessly, they let me put on the goalie pads. After that, I was hooked! I want to be a Goalkeeper!!! After talking to my parents (a lot), we decided that I needed to learn how to play the sport first and grow a bit before I could go back in goal. I spent the next 5 years learning how to play the field, specifically on offense as a Forward. I joined at travel club when I was 9 years old and started playing up in u14 and u16 tournaments. Once I got into 7th grade, I was finally able to put on goalkeeper pads and now my only focus is being a goalie.

If I had to describe what sets me apart from other goalkeepers, I would have to point to all of my years as a field player and knowledge of the game. Knowing the attack angles, the type of shots you face, and plays teams run all help me better prepare for preventing them from scoring. I’m the loudest player on the field and will direct my teammates to get back into position and to watch for certain players or plays. 

Currently, I am playing for a club team in Ohio, a few hours away from Pittsburgh, and I practice with an adult club team on the weekends. I have routine lessons with former D1 and D2 players and I try to go to as many college camps and goalkeeper clinics as I can. I’d love to find a coach who appreciates my level of commitment and diverse background.
