Hello! My name is Natalie Barnett Pearce and I am currently a student at La Salle Academy in Providence Rhode Island. My collegiate goals and aspirations are to play college field hockey. From a young age when I picked up playing field hockey I fell in love with the sport and it has always been a dream of mine to play field hockey after high school. I've played field hockey since I was six years old for club teams, all throughout middle school, and high school. I practice in my free time in my back yard, sometimes in my room, and at near by fields or grassy areas.
Some things that would make me a great candidate for the team would be that I have solid basic skills and I practice them regularly. I as well have been for over the course of years. Another is that I am a good communicator. Meaning that I know how to talk to teammates during games and calling out open passes, etc. I am also a very listener and I am always interested in hearing feedback and corrections that could be needed to occur. Another aspect of myself is that I do well under pressure and am able to maintain focus when there are potential distractions. I also work out at the gym when I can and I do competitive gymnastics as well. Therefore, I condition about 4-5 times a week. And I work on my endurance every few days by going on runs in my neighborhood or by going to the gym and working out on the treadmills.
A trait of mine that I believe makes me stand out next to other players is that I am a big supporter. For example, for field hockey games for the underclassman. I show up and cheer for them on the side lines or in the stands whenever I can. I always try to be their for my teammates and I am always one of the loudest ones there. In both of my main sports. Them being field hockey and gymnastics, I have been recognized in both sports for my commitment to the teams.
School has never really came easily to me. In the past it's been a struggle actually. Over time after working with executive function professionals at La Salle I have started to find a sense of ease with my learning abilities and grown in my confidence with it. This past summer I was apart of the Brown "GirlsGetMath" program. The program was very selective and purpose was to expose high school girls to STEM and coding opportunities. As well as a chance to see women in STEM in action. Which ended up being an amazing opportunity and really helped me.
