My name is Amanda Jaeger and I am a rising senior at the Madeira School from Vienna VA. I've played Varsity Field Hockey all four years and have been named Captain for both my junior and senior year. I joined my club team, Southeast Storm back in the fall but because of a serious injury, I have been unable to join them in any tournaments until this summer.
I received a major concussion and some eye-alignment issues after a hit to the chin in October 2013. Because of this, I was unable to attend several tournaments with my club team including the Disney Showcase and Futures Tournament. However, despite this major blow to my outside-school career, I believe that my injuries have given me a new perspective as a student and as an athlete.
Because of my injuries, I've been able to truly understand what perseverance and resilience mean. I've learned to carry on in times which have been both mentally and physically frustrating and I've learned more about myself as an athlete, a student and a person.
I believe I can differ from others because of unique experience and my desire to play. My positions as field hockey captain and head of sound board in the technical theatre department have given me insight on being a leader while my intern and volunteer opportunities have put me on the other side of the totem pole, giving me lessons on what it means to be just a small piece of a bigger picture. I believe that the lessons my varied experiences are invaluable and will help guide me in my future athletic and academic endeavors.
I hope that any coach who has questions regarding my candidacy as a recruit will reach out, as I would be happy to answer any further questions.
