After trying many other sports, I found field hockey when I was 7 years old. My first team was in a local recreation league and was lucky to have had a coach who had played herself. It was with coach Baker and the Stingrays that I quickly fell in love with field hockey. I love the intensity and the adrenaline rush that comes with playing! By the age of 10, I joined my first club/travel team and played up an age group with U14 NOVA Elite. I was shocked that I was the youngest player and playing with the older girls on the top team in our club, but coach Willa said “I had earned it”. When I got to middle school, I started on the ‘A-team’ all 3 years and was a team captain in 8th grade.
When my NOVA Elite coach retired, I moved to High Voltage’s U14 team when I was 12 years old. While learning more about the game from coach Barnes, I continued to improve and coach Harris invited me to play up an age group again and compete in my first Shooting Star (Richmond, VA) with the U16 team. In preparation for high school, I also worked privately with coach Barnes and attended U14-Nexus. With my preparation, I was able to earned a spot on Mountain View HS’s varsity team as a freshman. Over the past 3 years, played in many positions for Mountain View, but normally as a starter at defensive back. I‘m a team captain and I’ve earned All-District Team honors twice and All-Region 6B, 2nd Team this season.
I’m now playing club for the Washington Wolves U19 and continue to learn from my coaches. My learning has increased through refereeing for the local Parks & Rec league where I also hope to coach middle school age players this coming Spring.
I hope to be able to continue playing beyond high school while at college, because my love for the game only increased at higher levels of competition.
