Football has opened every door in my life that was otherwise closed. I owe this sport everything, and I pay it back every day. Growing up with learning challenges, I worked twice as hard as my classmates to achieve similar results in the classroom. On the football field, in the classroom, in the gym, in my community, putting in twice the work is what I do. I couldn't play the game I love if I couldn't achieve academic success in the classroom, no excuses, even if learning was a challenge for me. So I worked. I worked with specialists, I worked with tutors, I worked with Orton-Gillingham mentors. Then I went to practice and worked, then I worked in the weightroom, then I worked in the off-season. I set goals, I work until I achieve those goals, then I set higher goals. Coming in as a freshman to Danbury High School, the team needed a quarterback. Even though I was a punter, I earned the starting QB and punter positions and kept them all year. We didn't win a single game. I learned lessons of personal accountability, of getting better to not let my teammates down, and of keeping my head in the game when it wasn't going our way. I will bring all these lessons, and this work ethic to playing college football. I've earned a 3.4 GPA in high school because of football. And I am committed to continually increasing my GPA. I learned how to learn because of football. My goals are simple, even though the road to achieving them is not. I will go to college, and I will be a collegiate football punter and holder. I will do this because I have spent my life working hard, and now, I am achieving the results that have been years in the making. I will spend the offseason improving my skills. I will embrace every opportunity and invitation as a blessing to show up, compete and learn. I will continue to demonstrate that I will be a productive, accountable member of your school, your communty, your football team, and to my teamates.
