As a multi-sport athlete, I have learned many things through these experiences, especially football. It has taught me to be a great leader, a superb listener, and an overall disciplined person. The sport has taught me how to work together with other people and to improve myself mentally and physically. Football is not just a sport but a lifestyle.
Starting from ninth grade I was always an important asset to my team, whether it was backing up a hurt starter or playing special teams. I was one of four freshman who lettered my freshman year. Going into my sophomore year my body changed and I was nonstop grinding for that starting position. I ended up a starter within the first week of spring practices. It was a constant battle for positions with there being 11 linebackers and me not being the oldest, fastest, or strongest. In the end I finished with a total of 86 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 TFLs and 2 fumble recoveries. I was not only a defensive threat but an offensive threat as well finishing with 82 yards, 6 touchdowns, averaging 8 yards per carry playing as a full back.
Off the field, I am a leader in my classes and community. I volunteered as coaches for my younger brothers’ teams, participated in community events such as trunk or treat to represent my school and other events around my community. As a leader not only in my class but my entire school, everybody knows my name. Teachers notice me, administrators notice me and of course the students notice me as a funny, well-mannered, student athlete.
Above all, my coaches know me to be dedicated, hard-working, and extremely coachable. I'm looking forward to many more years as a football player.
