Aloha, My name is Kahakoilani Lopez, and I come from the island of Moloka’i, a population of about 7,500 people. I am expected to graduate from Moloka’i High School in 2025 and am looking forward to a great college career. I love to solve problems and am looking to study in the fields of Engineering and Architecture. I am willing to explore a field that will bring out the best in me and set me up for the greatest success so that one day I can come back to my island home of Moloka’i and contribute back to my community; the village that has raised me to become the man that I am and will be, Moloka’i Nui a Hina. My family and especially my mom has given me the values of love, hope, and perseverance. They are my number one fan and help me be the best person I can be. Through these core values, I will make them proud. The love for football has brought me to where I am today. At 7 years old, I had the opportunity to play flag football, it was when flag football just started here on Moloka’I and am very fortunate to have the same coach that I had back then and who I have now. He helped inspire and motivate me to bring out the best football I have in me. I learned through his commitment and dedication; I have grown to be a competitive athlete and continue to grow through the support from coaches like Coach Kimo Orlando. I was fortunate enough to be selected as the 2022 Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) 8-Player Football All-star First Team Wide Receiver as there was hard competition. My aim is to attain the same achievement from now until I graduate from high school in 2025. To achieve that, I live by our Molokai Football Creed. “A great effort is usually the result of a great attitude. I will dedicate myself to a mighty purpose. I will win with humility and lose with grace. I will work to improve my moral, spiritual, and physical strengths. I will remember that how I conduct myself off the field is just as important as how I conduct myself on the field. I will embrace reproof, and discipline-these are the tools that shape success. Success is not final, and failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts. Sacrifice will often require me to give up the “good” to become “great.” I will always give my best. Practice like a champion. Play like a champion. Live like a champion.” By being disciplined and honoring this creed, I know that I can attain to be the best person I can be. I must believe in myself, train to put the hours in, and always leave room for improvement to constantly be the better person is to be the best person. It is a daily routine. Coming from a small rural Hawaiian island with the passion, dedication, and discipline for football is what separates me from others. | |
