I have been playing football since I was in the 1st grade. At the time, I played where I was needed on both sides of the ball. After the first time I sacked the QB playing D End, the first touchdown I scored or the first ball I stripped, I have been hooked. I knew from that age that I aspired to one day play this game in college. After discovering in 6th grade that the Quarterback position was where I excelled, I have not looked back.
Despite having ADHD where focus is an issue in the classroom, the football field is a place where I have always been free from those challenges. I am laser focused on the field and it is freeing to have a place where I can leave behind all of the noise in my head. On the field, I can remember a play with 10+ words and relay it word for word in the huddle. On the field, my teammates view me as a leader and not as the cut-up making yet another trip to the Principal's Office. On the field, my Coaches rely on me to give 110% on game day and at every practice. Football, my teammates and this game I love is my safe space and it is my passion to continue to pursue into College.
In the classroom, I am continually learning how to work with my ADHD and improve my ability to focus, effectively take tests, and raise my G.P.A. My parents are my support system and are behind me every step of the way.
I look forward to entering my Junior year at Bishop Ward High School, as well as beginning the process of finding the school that will offer me the next football field to become my safe space.
