Personal Statement
Growing up my life was different. My life wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t the best or most stable either. Life for me growing up was going in and out of foster care and moving houses a lot. I secluded to myself mostly and didn’t really involve myself with school programs or sports. When I entered seventh grade, I chose to give sports a chance. Football was my first choice and it has been changing my life since. High school football really changed me the most and has been molding me into the young man I am today. My coaches help me understand to do everything with 110% of what I have to offer and to never be satisfied with what I have or done. They taught me to always want to achieve more and push myself to the limits. Being told those things has made me work harder than I ever thought was possible for myself and the results of that ended with me having a breakthrough junior season. My past has taught me that I have to overcome any situation life gives me and put my best foot forward to commit myself and fully achieve my dream of playing football.
Football made me learn that I have more to offer to teams, organizations, jobs, etc. than what meets the eye. It’s helped me realize that I am a leader rather than a follower. It has taught me that I need to always push myself harder academically in the classroom and not just settle for average grades so I can play football. My academic goals are to finish high school with a 3.0 GPA. I also have a goal to earn a masters degree in Film or Computer Science. Unique skills I have are my flexibility for whatever a coach or teacher needs me to do even if I have never done it before. If I have never done it, I’ll do my best to learn and master the required skills. Characteristics I possess are responsibility, integrity, and reliability.
