Personal Statement

My name is Seth Hunter, I attend Lusher Charter High School and am part of the Class of 2020. I am 6’2, 150 lbs and I play wideout as a second year starter for the Lusher Lions Football Team. I want to end my high school career with a 3.0 GPA and a minimum of 24 on the ACT. I feel these numbers would show recruiters that, maintaining this GPA at a school like Lusher, I can handle the tough college requirements. While in college I would like to major in Sports Management or an equivalent major that combines communications, finance, business, and marketing. Every college athlete needs a backup plan and in case things don’t work out in my favor I would like to stay close to sports, so this would be the perfect major for me. After college I would like to take part in or start organizations helping inner city youth. My mother has been working with professional athletes helping them with their non-profit organizations since I was young and it allowed me to see another side to sports and to players.  I want to follow in her footsteps and be able to help athletes use their platform to give back to the community.

I’ve wanted to play football since an early age.  I remember it like it was yesterday. I was watching a Cowboys game with my dad, I must’ve been about four or five years old.  “I know what team that is “, and my dad said “what team is it” , and I said “The Stars”, because of the Stars on the side of their helmets. I only remember the pre game entrance, but watching them run out of that tunnel in Texas Stadium was exhilarating. My Grandfather went to Ole Miss and would often take me out to the Ole Miss football stadium to run around the field. My favorite part was pretending I was a part of the team and run out of the tunnel. I would pretend the fans were cheering for us and then I would look up in the stands and it would be filled with people cheering.

My family has had a lot of influence on my life, always telling me to reach for higher things and to be better than they were, and always do the right thing. They have always been supportive of me and my sisters.  Playing football, I have learned how tough I am, that I can get popped and be able to get right back up. God, my parents, coaches, and grandparents make me who I am. They are molding me into one heck of a man. I would say I’ve learned to be humble and feel that I have a lot of compassion for others. I also don’t talk a lot of smack talk, I let my hands and feet do the talking.  I’ve played through some pretty tough injuries but I don’t want to let my team down ever. I feel a certain way when I can’t or don’t honor a commitment. Character is very important to me and is something my parents have always taught me to value.

I look forward to the next chapter in my life and am very enthusiastic about my Senior year of high school and leaving my mark on the field at Lusher and hopefully in college.
