My football journey commenced during my sophomore year in high school when I was just 14 years old, embracing something entirely new in a foreign country at Thornton Academy in Maine, leaving behind my home in Mexico. Adapting to a boarding school in a distant land meant forging new friendships, yet it was within the football team that I found an unexpected family, compensating for the distance from my own.
Initially, my soccer skills landed me in the junior varsity team as the kicker. As the season concluded, I contemplated returning to Mexico. However, my coach's insistence, fueled by a successful season, altered my plans. He generously offered a two-year scholarship, resolving the financial hurdle that held me back. Determined to seize this opportunity, I dedicated myself to football, seeking improvement in the off-season by working with coaches and enhancing my physical capabilities.
Transitioning into my junior year, I assumed the role of the starting varsity kicker, a position I had to earn through dedication and hard work. Finishing the season as the top all-state kicker, despite personal success, a bitter taste lingered as we fell short in the final game.
Motivated to elevate my game, I intensified my efforts, engaging with coaches extensively, attending camps at UConn, Baylor, and UT Austin, gaining invaluable perspective on the scale of competition. As my senior year arrived, I was ready to shine. Yet, a missed opportunity in the opening game against Portland humbled me deeply. However, redemption swiftly followed with a 37-yard field goal, reinstating my confidence.
The pinnacle came in the state final against Portland, a team that had previously shattered my confidence. Despite rolling my ankle before the game, I chose to play through the pain, a testament to my commitment. With a purple, swollen foot, I faced a critical 37-yard field goal. Against all odds, I succeeded, propelling the team forward to clinch the state championship.
My journey encapsulates resilience, determination, and the ability to thrive in adversity. Alone in numerous instances, I emerged as a leader, ready for the next phase of my life – joining a new family at a college, pursuing studies in business, which seamlessly aligns with who I am.
