Personal Statement
Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Evening to all!
My name is Arriq M. Redd, and I am the starting RB for the Parkville Knights High School Varsity Football Program. I would like to share who I am to all of the potential coaches and recruiters who are looking for a scholar athlete to help their football program. I am also looking for a program that will mentor their players so I can continue to play and enjoy the sport I love, but also grow as a man and athlete.
I first fell in love with football when I was four or five years old. I was introduced to the game by my dad who was playing his football video game a lot when he was not at work. I went from watching him, to playing games with him and then against him and then I remember wanting to compete. It was at that time when I played catch with my dad that I knew i wanted to play, thus my journey began in football. This journey has led me to a growing but wondeful program at Parkville High School in Baltimore, Maryland where Coach Justin Payne and his staff along with my dad have taught me perserverance, dedication, humility, resiliency, strength and physical/mental toughness.
As a freshman, I was taken out of my starting position of RB/FB and placed on the offensive line and I had to learn patience and a new level of hard work. By the fourth game of the year, I earned my position back as well as earning a spot on the varsity team as a MLB/OLB. These series of events made me mentally tough and has helped me to focus when I play. It helped my dedication to stay with a program that was not good, it helped me stay humble and know that if I do not work hard, I will be replaced. It showed me how to be resilient and my dad kept me grounded and mentally tough to endure these obstacles.
This past season I enjoyed being part of history as my team went undefeated for the first time in my schools history as well as it being the first time we were in the playoffs. I was able to showcase some of my talents against the areas more successful programs. Although we lost in the third round of the playoffs, it showed me that, "Hard Work, Pays Off!" That is the mentality of what I will bring to my grades, football, and my personal life. A well-rounded young and eager student athlete/quiet leader is what any college or university will be receiving when adding me to their community and roster.
