Alexander Burton '11 Recruiting Profile

I was the Strongside/Inside Linebacker at Prior Lake High School in Savage, Minnesota. As our team's inside linebacker, my primary job was to "plug the middle" as the run stopper. I had a very successful senior season and recorded a team-high 98 tackles and 2 sacks. Prior Lake High School is a 5A school (highest level of competition in Minnesota) and we are a member of the metro's South Suburban Conference (where all teams are division 5A). At 223 lbs., I was often our largest defender on the field and did not have the benefit of having large defensive linemen playing/shielding in front of me as the inside linebacker. For instance, our defensive tackles and defensive ends were considered undersized (weighing only 175, 195, and 205 lbs.) for Minnesota 5A football. I also want to say that this senior season was only my first as a high school football player. I did NOT play football in grades 8, 9 and 10. In my junior year I did play the first two games but my season ended prematurely due to an injured back muscle (which is fully healed). Also, I gained over 20 lbs. of muscle weight and added nearly an inch in height since my junior year. The increase in size and speed helped me play a dominant role as our inside linebacker during my senior season. My play and potential have been recognized. At midseason, the writers at MinnesotaPreps.com identified me as one of the state's Top 20 Best Linebacker's (see MinnesotaPreps.com/Rivals) and I was recognized by the Minneapolis StarTribune (August, 2010) as one of the top 5 players in our South Suburban Conference (an all 5A big school league). In terms of size (6-0/223 lbs.), speed (4.63 40yd./4.28 shuttle), strength (345 Bench/585 squat/555 deadlift) and hitting impact (see film clip), I feel I have the characteristics and ability to play college football at a high level. I am registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse, possess a 3.281 GPA and scored 21 on my ACT. This academic term I am currently pulling 4 As and 2 B's, so my GPA will be close to a 3.4 at the time of application. In my films I am #11 and our team's Inside Linebacker and Long Snapper.
