My Eighth grade middle school year was the start of my football career. Prior to 8th grade I was homeschooled and of course had no opportunities to play football. On my first day of school I didn't know what to think when my middle school coach walked up and strongly urged me to join the football program. I got home and begged my parents to let me play. They finally conceded and talked to the coach and made arranglements to get me on the team.
On the starting day of practice, I barely knew anything about the game. My coach put me at Offensive Tackle and I fell in place. The first thing that I can remember him saying was to to "Fight the hardest you can and don't stop until the whistle blows" That mentality was always on my mind on and off of the field. From that point on, I didn't play football to play a sport, I played the game because I loved constantly challenging myself to work harder than the person in front of me. The challenge of always pushing myself to become a better player than I was the day before, became my first and most important priority.
Now a Senior in High School, I look back on my journey and I always ask myself, Did I work hard enough? Could I have worked harder? These questions are the only things that scare me about the game of football. I pride myself in working the hardest I can to reach my full potential. My Coaches always tell me that some of my best features are my energy and my motor. When I am on the field I am always moving. My sophmore Year, I was moved to Defensive Tackle. In my opinion, nothing beats the adrenaline rush of sacking a quarterback or stopping a run behind the line of scrimmage. I love this position but I always stay gratefull just to have the opportunity to play.
I have learned so much from my football experience. My leadership skills have greatly improved and I have seen the consequences of being a quitter. Academics are very important to me and I am looking for a college that will not only challenge me as an athlete but also as an intellectual. I never quit and I always work beyond the point of exhaustion. I get the honor of accrediting my high school football program for making me a better person and for always challenging my work ethic.
I hope you will consider me as a vital asset to have on your team. I greatly appreciate all of the amazing opportuinties that I have had in my life. Regardless of what may happen in the future, I will continue to become a better athlete and person everyday while always fighting until the whistle blows.
