Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Mason La Clair. I am a Senior at Monadnock Regional Middle High School graduating Spring of 2014. My dream is to play college football and to one day play Pro. My current positions are Tight End, Wide Receiver, Cornerback and Defensive Back on the varsity team. I have been playing varsity since freshman year. I have also played many other positions throughout my career which included running-back, linebacker, kicker, quarter back and center. Last year (2011) I received Coaches Award.
As 2012 season ended we won the state championship for the first time in our school's 51 year history. I also received 1st Team All-State in my Junior year. In addition to MRHS football, I played basketball and baseball, which included AAU Cheshire County Knights in the 2011-2012 season. I played Babe Ruth All-Star in my elementary and middle school years. In 2007 and 2008 I was selected to be presented in the edition "The Best Players in Babe Ruth League."
I consider myself a good student. In my Freshman year I was a part of JR Honor Society. I volunteer in the community whether its picking up trash at our local fair or crafts at a nursing home. I am part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters as I am grateful to share with others opportunities I have been given. It is important that I receive well rounded opportunities while I am in college; which includes my education and pursuit of my football career. I am interested in studying Sports Management as my college degree. I am also interested in Business Management to engage a well rounded career. In addition to management studies I have an interest in Criminal Justice. I am taking a college credited classes at my school and have found it intriguing. In addition to being a senior it is required to do a project that you are either interested career-wise, community or just of interest. I am learning sign language to better understand the language, but to understand the difficulties/challenges the hearing impaired face in our society. I have been working with my mentor weekly, not only just learning the language but interacting with the hearing impaired at the Deaf School of Austin in Brattleboro, VT. I am open to any possible college and division that would suit me the best. To help my athletic abilities I work with a Professional Core/Strengthening Coach at Fit-nation, as well as working out with my team at our high school workout room.
As my Senior Year ended I was awarded NH Scholar amongst some of my peers as well as making honor roll. As I look back on my high school journey there has been several lessons learned. The teaching staff, administration, peers, coaches, community and family have developed strong habits that I will present in both being a student-athlete at college or university.
As I mentioned I am pursuing my career in business management/sports management. I am interested in this career choice because it will continue my involvement in sports. I feel that I will be a good business person in this field because of my knowledge of a variety of sports, enjoy working with others, work well with others and easy to work with. I have a good sense of character and present myself humble and modest. I enjoy challenges that I need to work at to become better not only as an individual, but a peer to others. All this is demonstrated on the field too. I know that I am not only representing myself, but my team, school, community and my family.
My passion is football and I would like to play whatever division that will allow me to pursue my goal to play football in the NFL. This is all I talk about and have since I was very young. I will do whatever it takes to strive for this goal. I am a hard worker and am up for new challenges.
This past summer had been very busy for me with football camps, Blue-Grey Combine, 7v7 tournaments, flag football and to top the summer off I am invited to the 2014 Offense-Defense Showcase All-American Bowl held at the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando FL. I am looking forward to playing in the showcase and excited to work with the coaching staff that will be there. I just returned from the All-American game and I enjoyed my time down in Orlando. I played on both sides of the ball started WR. My coach decided to put me in at DE because of my good size and speed to rush the passer. I finished the game w/ 2 pancake blocks, 5 tackles, and 3 sacks. I was awarded Defensive Player of the Game. Just in that weeks time playing with others and being coached by that I hadn't played with since I was 8 taught me a lot about myself. I learned how much I respect coaches, players, and parents for what they do for me to get me to where I want to be. A respected man on and off the field.
We just had our first game for the 2013-2014 season in DII and we faired well with a 40-7 win over the opponent. I had a 23 yard pass for a TD in between defenders in the end zone, few key tackles and a couple deflections. Throughout the season I had several tackles, deflections, receptions, and touchdowns. A key game for myself was at Hollis-Brookline. I was determined we were not going to loss this game and made some key plays that resulted in a win and being selected as the Varsity Football (13-14) Defensive Player of the Game. As the season closed we went 9-0 in the regular season and the unfortunate happened for the first playoff game with us losing. Even with the loss we came out proud and grateful for what our team accomplished in the regular season. At the awards banquet I was awarded Athlete of the Year, not only is it based on plays on the field it is a representation of an athlete that is poised, shows sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field. Also, I have been named to the DII West Conference All-Star Team.
There are a few sites that cover our football schedule that display team and individual stats - www.NHfootballreport.com, http://widgets.maxpreps.com/high-schools/monadnock-huskies-(east-swanzey,nh)/football/schedule.htm - On this sites the stats are not fully updated, as on my stats I keyed in on the stats section of this profile. The stats I provided on the profile are verified through my coaching staff.
