It was the end; we walked towards the sidelines with tears streaming down our faces, and they felt like bullets. The hardest part was not the loss but looking at the seniors' faces, knowing that I couldn't give us a win in their last high school game. Throughout the summer, I spent countless hours preparing for the upcoming football season. I attended football camps, watched countless games, and even dedicated myself to extra team practices. However, despite all the preparations, it felt like we were constantly being outworked or out-skilled by our opponents. As a junior captain, I faced a learning curve to lead people older than me and to encourage the team to improve consistently. During the season, I worked to raise team morale by organizing team bonding events, communicating thoroughly with coaches and teammates without conflict, and raising support for the sport I love. Surrounded by homegrown leaders at Hotchkiss, I aim to build upon the leadership skills I worked to develop. Being the varsity football captain inspired me to have a more significant impact on my broader school community. Consequently, I assumed the role of junior class Vice President. During my campaign, I emphasized the importance of community and the support of our school's parents, businesses, and teachers. I plan to leverage an opportunity at Hotchkiss to grow and become a better leader in my sports teams and everyday classrooms.
