Personal Statement

Coach, My name is Jacob Gerbetz. I am a junior at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio. I chose to attend Hoban because it is a great college prep school and a very athletically challenging environment. We are a two time Dlll state title group now. I play WR and have also played DB and RB a lot over the years. I have and will also return kicks and punts. I have been playing football for 10 years (since the 2nd grade) and have a passion for the game. I have played on many great teams, and have also played on teams that struggled. I know a lot about football. Not just about the positions I play, but everything about the game. I have been a student of the game since I started.  I have great confidence in myself. I believe that I can accomplish anything on the football field. I play with great technique and quickness. I use my skill set and knowledge of the game to beat my opponent. It does not matter who I am competing against; for a position on the team or in a game, I always have great confidence that I will find a way to beat them. I am the hardest worker in everything I do. Whether in sports, school, or life, I always give my all.

My best attributes are intangibles such as character, heart, toughness, and work ethic.

I have worked on technique since I started football. I can read defenses, stem routes, and create separation, I know how to work in zone defenses as well as get off the press in man coverage. I am extremely quick in and out of my breaks and get open. If the ball is catchable, I will catch it. I am calm and cool on the field and will come through with a clutch catch to "move the sticks".  I have played in rotational situations, and have had years that I never came off the field. I know what it means to be a scout player and push my teammates as well as be a starter and lead by example.

I am looking for a program and school that will be a good fit for me. I want to get a good feeling from the school that this is where I belong. I want to feel wanted at this school by the coaches and the academic programs. I would like to find a good balance between the classroom and the football field. I am most interested in Exercise Physiology, Sports Science, Athletic Training, and Nutrition. Coaching Football interests me as well.

I want to have a great impact on the team. I know I can play at any level. If I am wanted at the program and I get a good feeling about the school, then it will be a great fit for me.

Thanks Coach, Hope to shake your hand soon.                                                                                                                                                            Jake Gerbetz
